Being Present is Feeling the Soccer Ball

In today's information age it is easy to get lost scrolling through the past or looking to the future.

We often forget to live in the here and now.  We often forget to be aware of our current experience.

Now don't get me wrong.  I'm not saying we should throw away our phones and live like monks in the mountains.  I don't think reddit and Game of Thrones exist in those communities.  Let's not throw out the baby with the bathwater.

But as Lao Tzu says, living in the past can lead to depression and living in the future can lead to anxiety.

The present moment, on the other hand, is always okay.  And it's always what it should be.

So instead of grasping onto our phones to exit reality, we should let go and experience the now.

We should try to avoid clinging, ruminating, or stressing about the FOMO from not checking our social media.

Just be with what is (try this meditation).  Often times it's much better than what we can find on Facebook.

Not only will this improve our psychological, emotional, and physical health...but it might save us from a soccer ball to the face.
