Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome vs Hip Osteoarthritis

Sometimes it’s difficult to tell the difference between hip bursitis and hip osteoarthritis.

While there are many differences, once study has found a cluster of tests to significantly help in diagnosis.

They found it is likely greater trochanteric pain syndrome if the patient has the following:

  • History of lateral hip pain
  • Absence of difficulty manipulating shoes and socks
  • Pain on palpating of the greater trochanter
  • Lateral hip pain with FABER

Better diagnoses lead to better treatments.
